This fall, Rainy Day is hosting a Cornell-student-exclusive writing competition.
Who can submit?
Any Cornell undergraduate student. Rainy Day club members and staff that are not on the editorial board are also free to submit.
What can I submit?
The competition accepts poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and short plays.
When is the deadline?
November 22, 2026, 11:59pm.
Are there page limits?
There are no formal page or word limits, but we encourage contributors to keep their submissions under 10 pages.
What are the prizes?
1st place: iPad + publication. 2nd place: You choose the books, we buy them ($150 budget) + publication. 3rd place: You choose the books, we buy them ($75 budget) + publication.
How is the winner decided?
All members of the editorial board will read each submitted piece and will assign it a star rating from 1 to 5. The top ten pieces with the highest average star ratings will be discussed in an editorial board meeting, where the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-place pieces are determined by vote.
Are all submissions considered for publication?
Yes. All submissions to the competition will be independently considered for publication in Rainy Day.
